Utah Mixed Martial Arts | Showdown Lightweight Championship

Utah Mixed Martial Arts

Showdown Fights will be putting on a show on November 16th, 2012. This will be a Utah Mixed Martial Arts event that will showcase fighters from Utah and California. Featured in this show will be two fighters from Absolute MMA.

Denver Merrifield-Nirva

An up and coming fighter out of Absolute MMA with a 4-1-0 record. Denver has been steadily improving both his Muay Thai and his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with consistent practice. Training under his long time coach, Rob Handley, Denver has made significant gains in both his offense and defense in these two disciplines. Denver has added a strong wrestling base to his game which will only add to his strengths. This fight will be at Bantamweight, 135 lbs.

Denver’s opponent, Agustin Espinoza, is known for his heavy hands and explosive style. Tough and willing to scrap, Agustin will give Denver a great challenge which will make for a great fight. We are looking forward to fireworks from this one.

Steven “Razor” Sharp

Also to be joining the fray as a seasoned veteran of Utah Mixed Martial Arts. With a record of 28-15-0, Steve will bring a wealth of experience to the cage and upon his opponent. Steve is known for being tough as nails and his crushing punches and kicks. A local Utah favorite, Steve is the favored to win against his opponent.

Clay Collard is a younger fighter who is looking to make his mark with a win against Steve. Clay has a record of 9-4-0. He has some experience and most of his wins come by way of knockout or TKO due to strikes. Clay is hungry and working hard to get his game to the next level. This should be another barn burner.

Total Mayhem Hosts Mixed Martial Arts Fights in Utah

Steve “Razor” Sharp is fighting on April 7th! Steve’s opponent will be “Disco” Dave Foley at Total Mayhem’s We’re Back II. The show will be held at The Gym on 2805 South 2025 West in West Haven, Utah. This will be an all ages event and fights will start at 7 pm.

Both of these Mixed Martial Art fighters have impressive and colorful records. Wrestling, Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Boxing will all be on display in this bout. It should be a great night of fights so come out and support our Absolute MMA team member in his latest match. You know you don’t want to miss it!

Mixed Martial Arts Training Culminates in Showdown Fights: Breakout Show

Showdown Fights: Breakout was a great show this last Saturday. Exciting fights and an electric atmosphere made for a great night.

Steve Sharp, exciting and fierce as always, finished Mario Espinoza in three minutes of the very first round. These boys talked about having a stand up, knockdown, knuckle and skull fight in their pre-fight interviews. They did not disappoint. Both fighters came out swinging with Steve getting the better of every exchange. Steve threw some monster leg kicks which had Mario limping and looking for a takedown as a way out. Not one to miss an opportunity, Steve cinched down a guillotine choke that ended the fight. Steve showed again why he is an exciting fighter out of the Absolute MMA camp with a quick and decisive finish.

Josh Burkman and Koffi Adzitso had a regular barn burner that went all three rounds. Both fighters laded hard punches with Burkman getting the better of the the takedowns. Neither gave an inch and gave everything they had to get the “W”. Josh got the unanimous decision but both walked away with respect for each other and adoration from the crowd.

Showdown Fights: Breakout got notice from mmaweekly.com. They posted fight results and a mention of Burkman’s win. Great show and great fights. We look forward to more of the same in the future.

Elite Fight Night

taken from thecagenews.com

Absolute MMA fighters go 2-0 in Jeremy Horns Elite Fight Night. Thank you to everyone who came out to support our fighters and a great night of fights.

Camrann Pacheco vs. Lance Gorman

Pacheco lands a hard couple of inside leg kicks. Gorman scores with a jumping knee and eats another couple of hard leg kicks. Gorman drops to the mat and Pacheco is all over Gorman. Pacheco is hammering down with both fists. Ref John Jordan steps in at :49 after Gorman has no answer for Pacheco’s “monkey strikes,” as the announcer puts it. Great fight!

Steven Sharp vs. Shane Brenner

Round 1: Steve Sharp comes out to a huge ovation. Wow, everyone is on their feet here cheering for Sharp, who comes out in a ninja suit and rips off the head gear to show is trademark pink hair with a black Mohawk. They’re still standing and cheering here. Brenner takes the center of the cage. They exchange some tentative strikes. Sharp lands a hard outside kick to Brenner’s right leg. Sharp lands a few strikes and Brenner’s leg either buckles or got kicked, I couldn’t tell. Joe Riggs steps in to stop this fight, as Brenner is down holding his leg, which doesn’t look good. At :39, Sharp gets the victory. In Sharp’s victory speech he says Brenner came in with an injury and made it worse. Brenner, sitting on the ground, thanks everyone and confirms the previous injury.
